I am sure you have noticed that we have season cards for Christmas, St. Valentine’s Day and Easter but no cards for Lent. Maybe we should start a little cottage industry and print us some Lenten cards. We cold inscribe them with such messages as:
“May your penance be painful and purifying.”
“Don’t forget not to eat that dark chocolate treat.”
“May those 40 days and nights bring you to your knees.”
“Have a Happy Lent.”
On second thought maybe we should expend our energies on making a better Len for ourselves. That is best done by prayerfully examining the message Paul sent to Timothy. He reminded him that God has given us a spirit of “power and love and self-control.” These three are important for our Lenten journey and we are held in check and balance by the example of Jesus’ life and ministry.
