The Apostles and the early disciples proclaimed the Risen Christ boldly … often at great risk to themselves. In today’s first reading … Paul is in a jam … he is on trial before the chief theological authorities for his belief and preaching of the resurrection. Paul knows his audience and manages to distract them and divert their attention to the debate about the resurrection.
Paul perseveres in carrying out his mission of spreading the Good News.
In the Gospel … Jesus prays for His followers … for their unity and perseverance in faith. Jesus prays that all who believe might achieve the same unity that exists between Him and the Father … that they may spread the Good News to all.
Jesus’ words … “I pray that they may be one … as you Father are in me and I in you” … express that unity of all of us into the body of Christ … and the empowering of us to share the Good News.
Let us make this prayer of Jesus a reality in our lives.
May all our thoughts … words … and interactions reflect our share in the mission of spreading the Good News of the resurrection. May we reflect the unity of our Triune God.
