August 6, 2014 FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION
Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 2Peter 1:16-19 Matthew 17:1-9
Today’s Gospel is like a coming attraction … it is a preview of transformation. The change in appearance of Jesus … dazzling … was a preview of what He would be like in His resurrected glory.
The presence of Moses and Elijah clearly affirmed that Jesus was the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.
The voice from heaven was another sign that Jesus was the Son of God … the promised Messiah.
All these things helped the disciple to keep faith in Jesus despite the difficulties that were to come.
The celebration of the feast of the Transfiguration is a coming attraction for us. It moves us beyond what is tangible … beyond mere human knowledge … and immerses us into the realm of faith.
It is a different perspective.
Just as Jesus was changed and transformed … He wishes to transform our hearts and minds … to change us from the inside out!
What a great opportunity this feast gives us to see with different eyes … to open ourselves to Christ’s saving and life changing love!
