October 17, 2014 Ephesians 1:11-14; Luke 12:1-7
Why in the world would Jesus even bring up counting the number of hairs on our head … or how much a sparrow costs? We might find it strange and say … who cares?
As believers … we know that our God cares!
Paul … in the first reading … tells us that we are God’s own … chosen from the beginning.
In today’s Gospel … Jesus assures us and emphasizes that we are loved and have great value in God’s eyes.
We believe that we are created in God’s image and likeness. That, in itself … gives us value beyond measure.
If God loved us so much … it is important that we see that image of God in one another. It is a call to treat one another with respect and love.
Today’s Gospel gives us several important messages:
- First … it makes us aware that all of us are special
- Second … it urges us to live this message in our dealings with others
- Third … the Gospel challenges us to shape our sense of self-worth to enable us to love God and others more fully.
May we really see and act as true followers of Jesus … valuing our own dignity and that of others.
