December 4, 2014   Isaiah 26:1-6;   Matthew 7:21, 24-27

Reflection by Sister M. Albertine Stachowski, cssf

Did you notice that the word ‘rock’ is used in both readings?

In the first reading … we hear … “the Lord is an eternal rock”.

In the Gospel … we are told that the wise person “builds a house on a rock foundation”.

Rock … generally gives us an image of strength … of stability … of permanence.

Isaiah proclaims that the people of Judah are to trust in God’s Word.

Jesus uses a parable to teach that His words are like rock … solid … to be trusted. We need to build on the truths that Jesus teaches us.

In this Advent season … a season of promises … let us set our lives upon Jesus and His teachings.

Let us give our lives a rock solid foundation in order to one day share in the promise of eternal life.
