A Great Mystery

Window by Sister Ann Therese Kelly, cssf O Wisdom, you came forth from the mouth of the Most High and, reaching from beginning to end, you ordered all things mightily and sweetly. Come, and teach us the way of prudence. This is a prefigurement of Jesus, the eternal Word of God, the “logos” John described in the opening of his gospel. Wisdom is the foundation of fear of the Lord, of holiness, or right living: it is wisdom whom we bid to come and teach us prudence. The cry “Come” will be repeated again and again, insistent and hope-filled. (c) 2000 Jeanne Kun

Reflection by Sister MaryAnne Olekszyk, cssf
In his genealogy Matthew recalls key patriarchs in the lineage of David.  God chose to enter into human history and to journey with imperfect people.  Throughout this hisory, God has been present with his people despite their sinfulness.  Jeus entered this world into a lineage chosen by God and Joseph of the house of David became his legal guardian;  Joseph’s wife Mary became his mother.  What great humility for God to become subject to and dependent on two human beings.  What humility and great responsibility for Mary to accept to be the Mother of God; to give birth to her very Creator.  What great simplicity for Joseph to be known as the father of Jesus.

We can be assured that God is waiting to be born within each of us.

How have I witnessed to those around me as a Christian awaiting the birth of Jesus?

How am I called to birth Jesus today?
