God’s presence is a game changer.

Consider today’s readings:

In the first reading … once God came on the scene … the formless waste and darkness become bright and useful. Order and balance come out of the chaos.

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth,
the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss,
while a mighty wind swept over the waters.

Then God said,
“Let there be light,” and there was light.

In the Gospel … once people recognize the presence of Jesus … they flock to Him for a chance to change their situation.

The status of the earth changed … the status of peoples’ hearts … minds and bodies changed when God enters into the picture.

These readings help us reflect on our own faith … how we have to reach out and recognize God’s presence among us in order to bring about change.

In the Gospel story … the people knew that God’s healing power was available to them … that they could be healed if they would reach out … if they would extend themselves. That’s true for us too. We need to reach out and encounter Jesus in our prayer life … in the Eucharist … and in our daily comings and goings.

Gospel Mk 6:53-56

and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed.

Let us renew our faith and affirm our belief that we are only a touch away from God … our life changer!
