As Lent draws to a close … we are aware of both the darkness and the light that enters into our lives. In the physical world … we experience the dark mornings that give way to brighter and longer daylight hours. In the spiritual world we have journeyed through Lent evaluating the darkness we sometimes carry in our hearts and the joy of open hearts and repentance.

In the scriptures … particularly today … we see a shift from darkness to light … and from worry to hope.

Jesus id troubled in spirit … read that as darkness as He is about to be betrayed by one closest to Him. Darkness is gathering … the disciples are confused … and Judas … with darkness in his heart … steps out into the darkness of night.

Then comes the shift. Jesus shifts His words to the light. He tells of His coming glory … it is a more hopeful tone … in fact … He is going where the Apostles cannot come … He will be glorified.

The darkness of suffering and death will bring about the light of resurrection and glory. For us … this shift brings about our salvation.

Each of us is called to turn our own darkness into light … to turn sufferings into joy. We have the perfect example in Jesus.

May we each reach deeply into our hearts today … and like Jesus … bring light out of darkness as we fulfill God’s plan for us.

Let us keep this in mind as we enter into the darkness of the next three days that we may celebrate the glory of the resurrection this Easter.
