Stay awake! Stand firm in the Lord!
The prevailing theme in today’s readings seems to be faithfulness.
In the first reading … Paul is encouraged and grateful that the Thessalonians are firm in their faith. He prays hat when the Lord comes … they remain ready … holy … and blameless … in God’s sight.
In the Gospel … we hear the call to be alert … as Jesus tells the parable of the faithful servant who stays ready for the Master. Readiness … faithfulness … can be measured by how we act … how we live our lives based on truth and integrity … on love and compassion.
If we are to be the Lord’s faithful people … we need to live our lives awake and alert … vigilant. We need to strive to follow the way of the Lord … to live in the light of God’s grace.
So … especially today … may we each have the love and faithfulness to “stay awake”. May we be reawakened in our dedication and love of the Lord and others … ready … holy … and blameless in God’s sight.
