March 3, 2016 Jeremiah 7:23-28; Luke 11:14-23
Let’s look a little closer at the first reading.
God gives an instruction to the people … LISTEN to my word!
Then … His word comes across very clearly … “I will be your God … and … you will be my people.”
Sounds like a plan!
And … then God says … here is how to do that … “Walk in all the ways that I command you … so that you may prosper.” The plan sounds even better!
BUT … now we hear how the people responded … they turned their backs … they hardened their hearts.
Not so good!
Bring this all into our daily reality. What does this mean for us?
Just like people of all times … we need to LISTEN to God’s voice … to let God be God … and we be God’s people. Most of all … we need to keep our hearts soft … open … to however God’s word comes to us … so that we recognize the graces and opportunities that are all around us as we move through our day.
And … if by some chance we missed that message … today’s responsorial sums it up for us … “If today you hear God’s voice … harden not your hearts.”
Let us pray that refrain for ourselves and for each other as we approach the end of this third week of Lent.
