Reflection – To love the inventor …

There is comfort in rules.
There is comfort in boundaries.
There is comfort in routine.
This is a truth built into our very hearts.

As much as some claim to be free spirits who thrive in disorder, it’s really not true.
We are at our best when we have something to ground us.
Something dependable.

We all recognize this when our days are thrown off by vacation.
We can’t go to bed the same way.
We can’t wake up the same way.
We can’t eat the same way.
There are times we just can’t get into the rhythm we’re accustomed to – and we suffer somehow because of it.

But God’s order isn’t in place so that we will merely find comfort.
It’s in place so that we might find him.

Our God is a God of order.
Our God is a God of dependable cycles.
Our God is a God of routine.

He has a plan.gg

Our job is just to be his.
To love the inventor above the invention.

To use our routines of prayer, fasting, penance, sacraments as a means to reach out to him – not as an end itself.

We do churchy stuff partly because it brings us comfort, but ultimately because it brings us God.
